AOS® Simplifies Data Center Network
Design, Build and Operations

Networking Made Easy Across Choice of Vendors

AOS® Overview

Apstra Operating System (AOS) is a turnkey application for automating the lifecycle of data center leaf-spine network services. AOS works with your established vendor switch hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Mellanox) and your switch operating systems (NX-OS, Junos, EOS, Cumulus), brite-box (Dell EMC) or white-box hardware running a variety of switch operating systems including Cumulus and open alternatives (Microsoft SONiC, Dell EMC OpenSwitch OPX). AOS helps you automate your network as a single system, not as complex individual parts. AOS completely decouples your network design, implementation and operations from the physical (underlay) and virtual (overlay) network infrastructure, using whichever hardware and switch OS you choose.

AOS can be deployed in modern data centers in both new (greenfield, green patch) and existing (brownfield) environments, across multiple vendors. AOS operates at the management plane and controls devices and switch operating systems through their published open APIs.

AOS for Data Center Leaf-Spine Network Architecture

AOS provides powerful capabilities that are unique amongst automation systems, including closed-loop validation and turnkey advanced data analytics processing pipelines that provide real-time continuous validation. AOS ensures all network elements – from BGP to EVPN through MLAG and ECMP, down to cabling work seamlessly using industry best practices deployed at web scale levels. AOS guarantees all elements work continuously in real-time – as you change network policy or as the network operating state changes.

Use Cases

Network Design Automation

AOS DC gives you a turnkey design automation tool. It asks you a few simple questions, such as your oversubscription goals, redundancy needs (e.g. MLAG and ECMP), and segmentation requirements (EVPN), then renders a vendor-agnostic, BGP-EVPN topology diagram for you to review and approve, in seconds.

Vendor-agnostic Design Automation

Design leaf-spine networks confidently with built-in industry best practices, in minutes.

Vendor-Agnostic Design Tools

Automated Multi-vendor EVPN Design, Configuration and Operation

Create-change-delete security zones in seconds, with validated ASNs, VRFs, VNIs and more.

VXLAN Overlay

Design-Build-Operate physical and virtual networks as a single system

VXLAN Overlay

Network Build-out Automation

AOS DC gives you a turnkey design automation tool. It asks you a few simple questions, such as your oversubscription goals, redundancy needs (e.g. MLAG and ECMP), and segmentation requirements (EVPN), then renders a vendor-agnostic, BGP-EVPN topology diagram for you to review and approve, in seconds.

Abstract Away Vendor-specific Hardware Details

Create-swap-delete leaf-spine devices, in minutes, across name-brand and white-box vendors.

New Enterprise-class Features

AOS 2.2 includes new capabilities, making the solution an ideal fit for some of the most demanding environments. New features include:

  • Extensible IBA probes via the AOS GUI, including custom collectors — for day 2 operations and analytics.
  • Audit trail for customers to monitor login access to AOS and audit each change for better troubleshooting and compliance.
  • TACACS+ support and customizable RBAC – allows businesses to tune user permissions at a granular level to create user profiles that matches specific boundaries and policies.
Enterprise-class Features

AOS 2.2 provides the ability to pull directly from the AOS GUI, to manually configure the AOS analytics pipeline or instantiate one of the pre-defined IBA probes to set up proactive closed-loop monitoring and actionable alerts, as well as detect gray failures and other anomalies. Key updates include:
