Apstra Operating System Delivers Agility, Visibility, Reliability and Cost Efficiency on Open and Traditional Network Switches

MENLO PARK, CA – October 18, 2016Apstra, Inc. announced today that its Apstra Operating System (AOS) will integrate with Wedge 100, Facebook’s second generation top-of-rack network switch. AOS sits above both open and traditional vendor hardware infrastructure — including Wedge 100 — and provides the abstraction required to automatically translate a data center network architect’s intent into a closed loop, continuously validated infrastructure. The intent, network configurations, and telemetry are stored in a distributed, system-wide state repository. Apstra also announced today that it has joined the Open Compute Project (OCP) as a Community member.

Facebook shared in a blog post earlier today that Apstra joined the growing community of companies in the Wedge 100 ecosystem.

“Our mission at Apstra is to redefine how enterprise customers design, build, deploy, and operate their network services using a vendor-agnostic approach to deliver unparalleled agility, reliability, and operational efficiency,” said Mansour Karam, CEO and Founder of Apstra, Inc. “We are delighted to add Wedge 100 AOS integration as an offering to our customers who are building their private clouds.”

AOS is an extensible, turnkey software platform for network architects, deployment teams, and operational teams. It is a powerful intent-driven, vendor-agnostic, distributed operating system for the data center network that enables customers to automate their network operations. The AOS:

  • Delivers operational agility and reliability through powerful intent-driven automation that enables network engineers to rapidly convert their business intent into specific designs and blueprints
  • Provides unmatched visibility through high-resolution, real time telemetry that continuously validates configurations against original intents and detects anomalies
  • Massively reduces Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through powerful vendor- agnostic automation that leverages the choice of hardware

AOS sits on top of an existing physical and virtual network infrastructure. At the core of the AOS platform is a distributed data store that provides instant visibility into the original intents, validated configurations, and actual state of the network as a whole. AOS provides platform services through RESTful APIs that can be used by various applications including workflow management, resource management, device management, and streaming telemetry. The AOS turnkey application automates end-to-end network services for agile data centers and private clouds. AOS also closes the gap between agile Linux containers, traditional hardware, and open networking hardware.

About Apstra, Inc.
Apstra is redefining the way networks are designed, built and operated to deliver operational agility, reliability, and operational efficiency without vendor lock-in. Apstra solves two critical problems today: the management of scalable distributed state, and providing the abstraction required to automatically translate user intent into a continuously validated infrastructure that delivers on this intent. The Apstra Operating System (AOS) is a distributed operating system for the data center network that is vendor-agnostic, intent-driven, and closed loop.
